Whats the cheapest way to rent a one way cargo van in New York?

Im moving to Florida from New York and need a Van rental to move my stuff (Im not taking alot but I have a queen sized bed which Im still paying and cant leave behind) the problem is mover will cost me around $1,300 dollares and I need something under $700.00. All I need is a cargo van rental for one day that I can pick up in New York and take back in Florida.Whats the cheapest way to rent a one way cargo van in New York?
Budget Truck rental rents vans for one way moves. Also check out the moving companies that specialize in moves to Florida...you should be able to just pay for the stuff you are moving, not the whole truckWhats the cheapest way to rent a one way cargo van in New York?
Since your in New York anyway and aren't going back, the cheapest way by far is just steal it.
Try Uhaul. They wont let you take a cargo van one way, but the ten foot truck would work great for you. With a queen sized mattress, I dont think you'd be able to fit it into the cargo van anyways. Try 1-800-GO-UHAUL or go to htt://uhaul.com. They will take your reservation (or quote if you dont want to reserve) and then the nearest store will call to confirm your reservation.

What should we do about the North Korean cargo ship?

This ship may contain nuclear arms. Do we search and seize it, or should we let it be? Minding the consequences, what should we do?What should we do about the North Korean cargo ship?
Highly unlikely it has nuclear arms. The North Koreans may not actually possess any workable bombs other than what they are producing for tests. Crazy as they may seem they know that if they give or sell a nuclear weapon to somebody else, and that somebody else uses it on some third party, that third party is likely to blame the North Koreans and then show up on their turf and start breaking things.

We could just torpedo it in the open water and deny any knowledge of what happened to it.What should we do about the North Korean cargo ship?
Remember do not starve the north korean people instead build a international ship docking yard for all ships and search ships at random .Old russian nuclear weapons are easy to access from 20,000US dollars and up can buy you russian nuclear material and is more of a risk to society.I'll explain that MOM england and others think they know all but really just look after ther rich and famous from wetting there pants. What about DAD and UNCLE sam they all have do better including bigbrother.People even eat scorpions .What i am talking about are agencies that protect people from people but cannot protect against corruption in there own ranks.
...........I would think by now.......... the Navy wou;d have a way to disable a ship at sea without fireing a shot

''''''''''''''''' i.e. a steal cable net about two miles long on floats..just under the surface that would tangle props ........ would work good for ships hijacked by Somali pirates also..........
We need to drop spaghetti on it. North Koreans disintegrate and turn into Giant red Squid when exposed to spaghetti.
Load their galley with two hundred sixteen year old great danes. Their food supply is getting low.
Inspect it of course. If we do nothing then the next shipment with more and larger ones leaves next week.
Obama won't do jack. He'll let them build and stockpile nukes amd then blame it on someone else when they start ww3
Nothing. The ship should accidentally hit a mine.
We let it run out of gas, dock in China or the nearest port, try to refuel, and be inspected by the host country.
Sink it then nuke North Korea
We should test our missiles just like North Korea...
when it enters waters that have banned weapons shipments we board it if found on board we sink it
have you played the first level on Call of Duty 4? well we should do that. alert captain price

Can i still become an airline or cargo pilot with this criminal record?

Can i still become an airline or cargo pilot with this criminal record?

i made a threat in HS when i was 18 to shoot up the school. it was really immature of me and i regret doing it. misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Can i still become an airline or cargo pilot with this criminal record?
I say BOYCOTT THIS USER. This is NOT the kind of repeated question we need on Yahoo Answers. Check out his profile and look at all the times he's asked this question under this name. It is becoming ludicrous. I've been a pilot for nearly five years now, and I've never had this type of mule headed 'ness'. On the basis of how many times he's asked it, regardless of criminal record, I'd have a really hard time thinking he'd be a good pilot.

Maybe, he'll have to get a new user name to continue asking it.Can i still become an airline or cargo pilot with this criminal record?
If it just went down as disorderly conduct, you should be fine. Get a copy of the records and see what all is stated in it. It may not even list the threats.

For example, I charged a city bus driver with reckless driving (he drove through a police blockade), and the court found him guilty of disorderly conduct because they didn't want to mess his driving record up.

Since you were young, they probably didn't want to mess your record up. They may have also realized that you did not have the capability to do the crime.
At 18, were you indicted in court for immature act of threat? Did you actually poke a gun up the school? They will not take you seriously because the threat is not grave. no crime whatsoever.
how long have you went to jail if it is long it will be a no but if you are not a criminal and make a strong swear to not make anything bad they will let you and you will need skills to have the job
after you turn 18 yes you can your record should be clean then.

  • Why should you put the cabin altitude at 8000 ft or above after having a cargo fire?

Please be more specific. Walt, Matt %26amp; Jason have provided you with some good information but if you provide the aircraft in question then you may receive more specific answers. Why should you put the cabin altitude at 8000 ft or above after having a cargo fire?
Its not so much that you are setting 8000'

What you are doing is raising the internal cabin altitude so that when you decompress, the effects are not as drastic. The decompression from 5000' to FL350 is more drastic than the difference between 8000 and FL350.

Also, I hope you are talking about a cabin fire rather than a cargo fire. The cargo bins seal themselves off from the rest of the cabin anyway and Halon floods them. It snuffs the fire and prevents re-ignition. There would be no reason at all to decompress during a cargo fire. Why should you put the cabin altitude at 8000 ft or above after having a cargo fire?
    Less oxygen, less fire
the low air pressure almost kills the fire making it easier to extinguish
8000ft is kind of a random number...usually what happens is a complete dump of cabin pressure selected from the cockpit. What this does is open the outflow valves in the back of the aircraft completely, allowing the air from the inside to force the poorer quality air outside. This can provide temporary exhaustation of smoke for the passengers while the pilots try to get the aircraft on the ground.
The lower air pressure probably starves the fire, making it easier to put out, or keep out.

In a cargo plane, the center of gravity must be between the front and rear landing gears in order to maintain?

it's center of gravityIn a cargo plane, the center of gravity must be between the front and rear landing gears in order to maintain?
As mentioned by Oldguy and others. The answer is stability when on the ground.

As soon as the aircraft is relieved of aerodynamic loading, and is relying only on the undercarriage for support, then the CofG must be between the various elements of the undercarriage. If not, there would be a moment created due to all the reaction forces being on one side of the CofG and the aircraft would tip.In a cargo plane, the center of gravity must be between the front and rear landing gears in order to maintain?
As ';kiss'; mentions above, the flight CG range has nothing to do with the location of the landing gear, but is actually related to the center of lift and the working ranges of the flight controls.

If the CG is behind the main gear while the aircraft is sitting on the ground, the nose wheel will come off the ground, and the airplane may ';sit back'; on its tail. This happens more often than you might think, and is always good for a laugh at the pub later.

    So I guess to put the answer in the form of the question, it would be ';...in order to maintain a level deck.';
balance/stability while rolling or setting on the ground
    stability?
The center of gravity is defined by the manufacturer, and must be within a certain area on the aircraft. It actually has nothing to do with the landing gear, except that the main gear must be behind the CG if you don't want the aircraft to sit up on it's tail. The CG for flight has to be within a certain envelope so that the aircraft flies correctly. It's actually an area in relation to the wings. Also, cargo planes and passenger planes are pretty much the same on this, as many can be converted to one or the other.

PS, I guess I was assuming that you were talking about a tricycle gear aircraft, as a taildragger would have the CG aft of the main gear. They still fly some old DC-3's as cargo aircraft, but most aircraft these days are tricycle.
Yea. So what is you question?
There is an imaginary triangle that goes between the back two landing gear and the front one. As long as the CG stays in the triangle is can maintain a flight plan and landing.
the cg of an aircraft-is the point where the aircraft weight is distributed equally on both sides of an imaginary line running fore and aft and side to side and from top to bottom ie all three axis..all equations used determining this is called weight-arm-moment,,,,,
Any plane, cargo or otherwise, has to have that or it will tip over on the ground. Really tells you where the GEAR have to be, not how it will fly.

Brand new cargo trailer with dents due to small hail?

There are lots and lots of tiny dents; so so small that you can see them, but not feel them. We haven't contacted our insurance yet, because we want to know what our options are. Is 38 years old too old to start a career as a pilot flying small cargo or passenger planes?

Sure, you certainly can do it and fly freight or make it to a regional captain position (you may even make it to the majors if you try). Flying small freight really isn't a 'career' choice for most as they pay is bad, the work is very tiring and the work rules are not as desirable as in the airlines.

However, you need to weigh all the factors carefully. Getting into this career requires a substantial sum of money and the starting pay is $18K. After 3 years if you clear $30K, you are doing well. Even if you enrolled in a $60K ';academy'; program tommorow to get your training, you'd still be at least a year %26amp; a half away from a job interview (which is all you are guaranteed with those programs) for a $20K/yr job. You'd would be closer to 40 or 41 by the time you got hired and mandatory retirement is age 60. After 5-8 years, you may be making $50K at a regional.

The sacrifices you %26amp; your family are going to have to make, financially %26amp; otherwise, cannot be underestimated. I don't want to be a ';downer';, but you really need to be educated on all that's involved to make an informed career changing %26amp; life altering decision. If you decide to 'go for it', do so with no illusions.

I highly suggest you check http://www.jetcareers.com if you have not. They have message boards there, including a career changers folder, that will be very useful. Also try http://www.flightinfo.com and their boards. Many more resources than this forum for that need.

I made the jump in my 30's, and if I did not have a substantial sum saved and a very low house payment, I cannot imagine how I'd get by. I know someone who had the money and did the PPL thru CFI at a flight school and in 3 years they were new hire F/O at age 46. Unfortuntely, at age 50 my friend has left aviation because of the low wages (expected top out pay/retirement) and BS at the regionals. They did not want to stick it out till 60. Three years on the line was enough to find out that doing it for a living was not really living their dream- even though they thought (and proclaimed) so in the beginning.

Also, check out my site on flight training and careers for more isight and additional links of interest- http://www.geocities.com/av8trxx99/FAQ.h鈥?/a>

Good luck with your choice. Is 38 years old too old to start a career as a pilot flying small cargo or passenger planes?
Not a good career move if you're looking to support a wife and family on the salary you could make as a pilot.

It will take you several years of very expensive training to get to a position where you're qualified to fly as a commercial airline pilot. Then, several more years at near minimum wage ($18-$22K annual salary) before you are able to earn a decent living at it.Is 38 years old too old to start a career as a pilot flying small cargo or passenger planes?
Yes, if you are talking about a career.
Assuming you have no aviation background -

you will be 41-42 by the time you are jet rated and commercially certified to carry passengers. Some employers may not care about your age as long as you're qualified.

flying propeller aircraft is less demanding on the body and can be more easily trained and certified for.

    Bon chance!
You are never too old for anything. Even if you think that way 38 is not too old. Go for it man, something you like, you are passionate about!

Can I transport My Baby bunny From UAE to America without putting her as cargo?

I just got a bunny she is only a few months old and I dont want her to spend 14 hours alone in an airplane is there and airlines that will let me do this for not over 1,000 USD?Can I transport My Baby bunny From UAE to America without putting her as cargo?
Yes, you can carry her onboard in a carrier if she is small enough to put under the seat. It doesn't cost anything, but it counts as one of your two allowed carry-on items. However I'm not sure how you would address the issue of going to the bathroom without offending the other passengers.

Unfortunately, your rabbit would not do well if you sent her as cargo. The temperature in that area of the plane is not regulated as well as the rest of the plane and the pressure wouldn't be good for her either.

You need to call/email the airline that you plan to travel on and ask them their policies for animals on such long flights. Also speak to your local Veterinarian about health concerns and what they recommend. That is the best way to get the most accurate information.

Do I have deja vu or do you have multiple personality disorder and/or anterograde amnesia? Seriously, how many more times are you going to ask this question? More importantly, why? I did consider this possibility the first time I answered you, but now I can say with a reasonable degree of certainty that you'll fail the medical on psychological grounds way before your criminal record becomes an issue.
    No.

You can be a felon or worse and be hired as a Part 121 pilot, but someone with such a conviction involving children doesn't stand a chance.

';It was really immature';? No. It was really asshole. It had nothing to do with immaturity.

You're lucky you haven't (yet) been tracked down and shot by some of the families or kids. When you are found shot to death the police will not--and should not--work hard on the case.
I'm really liking Cherokee's answer. I agree - I say BOYCOTT THIS USER. This is NOT the kind of repeated question we need on Yahoo Answers.

I've answered this question twice myself. You've asked this same question at least seven times. And looking at your points, you'll have to get a new user name to continue asking it.

And btw, Cherokee had the best answer last time for this occurrence.
Regulations for cargo pilots are no different than those involving passenger transport. The answer is NO - No reputable company would hire you with this in your backgrtound. Move on and STOP asking the same question over and over gain. Stay away from aviation. Stay away from yahoo answers.
Thanks for the points, how many more times you gonna ask this? Is the point to wait until you get answer you like or see how many people will sympathize with you that it shouldn't be held against you -- if you ever really did anything.
No, you should be in prison.
Should not be held against you.. usually they require you to be crime/charge free for 5 years without re-offending and able to show proof of all sentence compliance and successful completion of probation, you will likely have to provide documentation for this.

Why not go directly to the source and find out for sure?

Good Luck, keep in mind many pilots are out of work due to lay offs...

Also Airlines almost always will choose a pilot with military service over someone who has just gone to school.

Embry Riddle in Daytona Beach is a great facility .
That is a job path that is highly competitive. I would hope that a ';stupidity'; misdemeanor would be overlooked, but everything else had better be perfect!
the only way you will know is go for the job. A misdemeanor like this would hopefully be overlooked but then again airlines are looking for professional people and they may reject your application due to this
As long as it is not a felony you can still be a pilot. good luck

How big is 65 cubic feet, the cargo area in the back of a Nissan Xterra?

I am looking for a good van/small suv for both, the use for my pet sitting business and personal use. I prefer something that i like and that doesnt use a lot of gas. Do you think the Nissan Xterra is a good idea? Big enough for crates in the back? Even for Great Danes? Thanks..How big is 65 cubic feet, the cargo area in the back of a Nissan Xterra?
I would suggest looking at the vehicle in person and measuring your crates for your dogs. How big is 65 cubic feet, the cargo area in the back of a Nissan Xterra?
Not too sure about the Nissan but try and get a small SUV that has folding back seats. Smaller SUV's tend to have smaller space in the back but offer the ability to fold down the rear seats. Stick with a newer model SUV with a V6 engine otherwise there's no point in calling it an SUV since it won't have any power and you'll still get decent gas mileage. You can google many of the models to find the gas mileage and folding seat availability and see what fits you best.
That is about 4x5x3. I have a Trailblazer and can put a dog crate in the back without the seat folded. In an Xterra you may need to fold down the seats. A crate for a Dane may be hard to get in the rear opening height wise but a large crate should fit. One for a German shepherd.

A minivan would be ideal for crating Danes as they have more verticle space available.

What kind of deal are we talking about here you have to pay so much down and hope to get some one to carry the remainder of the note? What is your credit score? I am sure that I can pick up the phone and get financing with in about ten minutes my score is 740. If I was going to by a new cargo van I would let the dealer find the financing for it. If I was going to buy this from a private person or as a used vehicle I would try to go through my credit union. There is nothing that stops you from calling GMAC and asking them if they will finance a cargo van. If that doesn't work you can always call your local big truck sales and ask them who they get to carry the note on a used truck, then call whoever it is and ask them if they will carry you.Is there bank that finance a cargo van for a commercial use?
Try a credit union. They won't care about how you use the vehicle. You can also go to an auto dealership that has its own financing arm. They will likely set something up for you, even if you don't buy the vehicle from them.

There are a number of independent leasing companies that you could contact for a lease or purchase. If you do a lease with a $1 or 10% buyout, that is pretty much the same as a purchase, as far as your cashflow is concerned.

If your business is an LLC or Corporation, it is not difficult to set-up company credit within 90-180 days, which would allow you to easily get vehicle financing without using your own credit.

What are the conditions in the cargo area for Air Canada airlines?

    Hello,

    According to Air Canada, ';your pet travels in a temperature controlled and ventilated baggage compartment on the same flight as you do. Air Canada transports the majority of pets this way. Winter restrictions may apply on certain aircraft.';

Yes, your puppy will be just fine. On most new planes, there is at least one baggage compartment that is temperature controlled. Air Canada's fleet is a generally new combination of Airbus, Boeing, and Embraer jets. These are top notch planes.

Be sure to consult a vet before the trip; pressure may be a factor in the animal's hearing health. Also consult the Air Canada pet's webpage, found here: http://www.aircanada.com/en/travelinfo/a鈥?/a>

Happy Flying! What are the conditions in the cargo area for Air Canada airlines?
I worked at an airline for 20 years. The cargo area of passenger jets are not heated. The temperature at 30000 feet is very cold and fit only for luggage.

How do you become a cargo pilot/ airliner pilot?

what does it take to be one?????How do you become a cargo pilot/ airliner pilot?
It depends on where in the world you live. In the U.S. the requirements change depending on the need. For example, when I first started flying, all of the major carriers DEMANDED a minimum of 2,000 TT with 500 Instrument hours. Since then, the requirements have gone from 2,000 to 1,000 and everywhere in between. The common requirement for all major carriers I have worked with is that a college degree or equivalent is required.

In Japan, you need not have ANY time at all, but a desire to fly and make it a long-term career. The carriers (JAL and ANA) give their pilots who do not have flight experience complete training, starting by teaching from the manuals to getting 1.5 to 2 years flight training in Australia or the U.S. Then, the training continues in the flight simulators and many more hours of ';ground school'; for the specific aircraft.

My suggestion is to check with the air carriers you would wish to work with - find out their requirements - and go from there. How do you become a cargo pilot/ airliner pilot?
Contrary to what Emily E said, a degree in aviation is not actually needed to become a commercial pilot. You need the required ratings and a minimum amount of flight time. You'll need to get your private pilot's license first, from there you get your dual engine rating and your instrument rating.

The degree might help at some companies, but I know for certain many would rather see a degree in something other than aviation.
    ask a terrorist
    go to school
There are 2 routes to becoming on:

You have to either go into the military (cheap way) to earn your wings and build up your flying hours

    or

You can do it the civilian way (very expensive) and find a airport that will give you all the ratings you need. But then once you have gotten all of your ratings you have to build up your flying hours so most people become flight instructions, whom get payed very little.

First you need to find an airport with a flight school. There are many steps you need to go through before you can fly the big planes, and many hours to build.

Also, you need to get an aviation degree. My husband has been able to get his all online through Utah State College, which just became Utah State University.
Simply enter a Flying Academy first..Then,you'll get it by yourself..

Do trains transport much cargo in the UK or are most goods transported by truck?

Is it like the US where trains are purely for transportation of cargo or are all trains mainly passenger trains?

Thanks for your answers!Do trains transport much cargo in the UK or are most goods transported by truck?
Ok, the reason we don't use trains for freight as much here as in the US is because in the early 60's some idiot called Beeching decided to recommend to the government it would be a good idea to decimate our rail network.

The Victorians had built the most fantastic rail system in the world, but the Conservative government took Beecham's advice and closed all the smaller lines, just leaving the links to major cities open. This meant that freight had to travel further just to get to a train and companies found it was cheaper to send it by road.

Disused rail lines are a common sight and are completely heart breaking. The lack of foresight was mind boggling. When you try to use our roads now, you understand what a truly monumental blunder it was.Do trains transport much cargo in the UK or are most goods transported by truck?

Most freight is bulk, Coal trains to the powerstations, Huge 3000t stone trains from the Mendips and lots of Containers to and from the Channel tunnel and ports.

One reason for the lack of domestic freight is the fact that the UK is a compact country. It is possible to drive accross the country in a few hours. Over such short distances its hard for rail to compete with road transport for small loads.

By the time Wagon Load (ie sending a single wagon) freight is sorted and marshalled a road truck will have allready arrived)

There is a new Intermodal (container) hub being planned for just outside Exeter (I think its now passed planning and construction will start when the neccessary road links are in place) so railfreight is growing. It will be interesting to see what happens with Raillion (DB Logistics) now owning EWS...
Rail freight capacity in the UK is sadly underused, with many of the former goods handling facilities having been dismantled. At the time of nationalisation (1948) most freight traffic went by rail, some went by road and there was a also a coastal shipping traffic which has all but disappeared. The transport was better integrated.

Sadly for reasons already cited by other posters the network has been cutback drastically since then. The surviving rail freight traffic is mainly in bulk, e.g. coal for power stations, steel, crushed stone for road building (irony there) and containers.

Rail is by far the safest and most efficient means of moving both freight and passengers but road traffic dominates in Britain and restoration of the rail network to its former self would take levels of investment that nobody would want to back.

There has been some comeback though. Recently the line from Bristol to Royal Portbury Dock (in south-west England) was reinstated for freight use in 2002 and is reckoned to save thousands of lorry journeys a year.
There are only 1,000 freight trains in operation each day in the UK, compared to 18,000 passenger trains - So there's definatly more Passenger trains.

However most of the Cargo is transported in these 1000 freight trains, more cargo than is transported by trucks, with rail accounting for 42%, road 36% and water 22%.

    Hope this helped.
i agree wih r,denig luckily the government is realising that tool beeching's incompetence and is reopening railways. although in terms of vehicles road is more common, in terms of capacity its fairly equal. one freight train is equal at times to 30 or 40 trucks.
The main reason for the use of roads not rail actually goes back to WW2, where the surplus road vehicles were sold off by the army to transport companies. These vehicals went at upto 50mph most of the time - compared with 35mph (average) of rail (due to Government regulation).

Then there was Beeching, and ever since it's been a common perception that it'll take longer by rail (despite figures showing it's quicker) .

It's starting to turn back to rail - problem is, there's too few freight facilities, and freight trains are slower (but not by much anymore) than passenger trains, slowing them down.
    A the beggining
Most trains in the UK are passenger trains (with in excess of 1 billion journeys per year for the past few years), but rail is still a significant freight carrier.

In the year from 1st April 2006 to 31st March, the total amount of freight moved on the UK network was 22.2 billion net tonne kilometres (which takes into account the net weight of the cargo, excluding that of the locomotive and wagons, and how far it's carried).

The total amount carried over the same period *without* taking the distance into account was 108.2 million tonnes.
I would only add the the following that the rail freight companies - of which there are now several - are actively seeking to increase the share of the freight market available to rail. There have been, for example, trials by supermarkets using bulk trains to carry stock to remote areas in Scotland. Even Eddie Stobart has a small rail freight subsidiary now. New 'hubs' are being built for use by container trains where goods are transferred from rail to road, again for local distribution. The German national rail company, Deutsch Bundesbahn, has recently acquired the major freight operator, English, Welsh and Scottish Railways. There was a great hope that rail freight would be encouraged by the Channel Tunnel but goods services through that virtually ceased a few years ago due to problems with illegal immigrants from the Sangatte camp using freight trains to get into the UK. Fortunately at last there are signs of a move back to Chunnel freight trains. The very real problem remains the lack of capacity on the network, caused by the Beeching stupidities of the 1960s. Things like relief sidings for freight trains (to get them out of the way of faster passenger services) were torn up, as were secondary lines - like the Great Central route and the trans-Pennine route through the Woodhead Tunnel. The expense of replacing these facilities is enormous, and the Government, despite all its lip service to stopping global warming, shows little sign of putting money where its mouth is. However, there are some signs of growth - the upgrading of the cross-country route from Felixstowe to Nuneaton to allow larger container to be carried is one.
Hi there. The Unfortunate answer is that here in the UK most goods are transported by truck. I am not sure why this is so mind.

Up until about 3 years ago Royal Mail used to have trains run arround the UK delivering post to the sorting offices, and on board the train the sorting would take place so saving time when it got to a major city, but they then cancelled this claiming that it was expensive.

The Eddie Stobart trucking company last year branched out into Rail Freight along with Tesco's so perhaps we will see an increase in goods moved that way.

Also Network Rail is in the middle of upgrading their freight lines from the Hull docks %26amp; Lowerstoft docks to encurrage companies to use the rail network.
Most goods are moved by road.
I believe that 95% of goods in the UK are transported by road. Nearly all trains in the UK are passenger trains.
Most are moved by road, mainly due to export outside of Europe comes in by boat then loaded onto trucks and transported by road, stuff inside the EU is collected by lorry and is transported directly to its destination.

There are some rail networking, however rail is mainly a mode of commuting in the uk

The new Airport is Close to Samut Prakan, I think you best send it over land freight ,As an unaccompanied package would run into much red tape.

    Good Luck
You best send it through a courier company or through a freight forwarding company as it needs to be labelled for security purpose. Unaccompanied suitcases are usually not allowed for security reason too.

If you are on a flight to Chiangmai and want to forward your suitcase on a through flight through Suvarnabhumi, you will have to check with the airline check-in counter and make your request. It will be up to the airline policy if they can do this for you.

Otherwise, you have to send as parcel maIl or couriered or freight to Chiangmai. Then you need to look for a cargo or freight or courier company at the cargo terminal of the airport, or the post office in the passenger terminal.

The commercial docks are secured areas. The general public can't go in and wander around for both safety and security issues.

No, absolutely not. The ship's crew can't, either, and neither can the longshoremen. Only the Master and Chief Mate have access to the cargo manifest. For everyone else, they're just boxes.

It is pressurized and temperature controlled that is itWhat kind of care is provided for dogs in tha cargo area of an 9 hour plane ride?
If it is a short nose bread, ie Boxer, the airlines usually dont want to cargo hold them, if at all possible not to stress out or kill your dog';loss of cargo hold pressure'; take him on board , I believe Delta may allow dogs on board in the cabin in a carrier, if he is small enough and will fit as a carry on they may allow him in front of u on the floor.
they dont receive necessarily and ';care'; they are almost handled like cargo. If you want your pup inside and if airplane space allows you will have to pay a fee for them to be inside in a airline approved carrier.

I had a pup shipped to Indiana from Florida and they would only allow the pup in a carrier and they would not ship it at all in the cargo area during the winter months.
If you have a five pound puppy, you should be able to carry her on with you. Most airlines will allow it as long as she is in an approved carrier that can fit under the airplane's seat. Check with your airline before putting her in cargo in the winter. Better yet, don't fly with her unless absolutely neccessary.
I am copying an answer I posted to another question about this from yesterday.I am giving you my experience as a vet tech. At my hospital we got asked for recommendations to allow pets to fly. As I said:

I don't recommend it. If you're going somewhere now, she will most likely die from the cold temperatures in the cargo hold.

Our hospital had a letter of 'non-committal' that we would give to owners that wanted to take their dogs on a plane. The airlines wanted the vets to GUARANTEE that the dogs were fit to travel and could survive the cold temperatures. Our vets would not commit to that because that puts the liability on them and not the airlines, so if the dog dies en route, the airlines are absolved of any wrongdoing, and the vet gets sued because they said the dog was ok to fly.

Many pets die in flight, but it's bad PR so it's swept under the rug.

Call the airline and ask them about a 5 # puppy. They may not allow a puppy that small in the cargo hold.

Apples to zebras, we haul it all.

Look around you ... .. most everythign you see is moved via freight train.

We haul entire Boeing 737 fusealges from a plant in the midwest to the west coast, although they dont have the wings, they are pretty impressive anyway. They need two flatcars coupled permantnely together.

Back in the cold war days we would haul solid rocket engines to the missile bases at Malmstrom AFB, they were accompanied by armed guards in a special armored caboose, we didnt mess with those loads.

The materials for the house you are in, appliances, clothing, food, even the computer you are sitting at, all are hauled by train.

UPS, FedEx, etc. What time will they normally takeoff to get from point A to point B? Do they do a lot of overnight flights? In the early morning? Mid afternoon? Or all? ThanksWhat time do cargo planes usually takeoff?
All hours of the day and night. What time do cargo planes usually takeoff?
where i live (indianapolis) I can usually hear the fed ex planes take off anywhere between 3 and 4 in the morning. I think it just depends on the terminal and what time the planes get loaded and ready to go.
The time they filed for take-off. I mean if they're sched to fly at 1400 then if all the cargo is loaded already at 1330 and closed doors they can ask ground control if they can leave early but if another plane is sched for between 1330-1400 then they might have to wait for their slot at 1400.
At whatever time that will get them to the sort center so that they can load up and arrive before the business day begins at their destination. So yes, it's going to be all red eyes all the time if you're going to fly freight.
I have been to Memphis a couple times and Fedex usally starts clearing out about 2:00pm. Pretty neat to watch.

Any suggestions?SUV owners: What do you put in your rear cargo to prevent things from shifting and sliding everywhere?

Some people fit metal rings on the inner body side and then use luggage or ratchet straps around the object/s which need holding in place. Or anti-slide / anti-slip mats can help.

There's not a good 'off-the-shelf' solution for this problem unfortunately - I end up having to wedge things together to stop the loud banging noises every time you hit a sharp bend...

Why is it necessary to ship tennis balls on ground instead of in the air for cargo?

why by truck instead of plane? Please explain why and what would happen if shipped by air.Why is it necessary to ship tennis balls on ground instead of in the air for cargo?
i think it might be shipment by air is more expensive.

to my understanding, cargo area of cargo planes are also pressurised, though not until the comfort like in a passenger plane. as this is to reduce the chance of damage to the cargo it is carrying. else the bubble bags used in packaging will deform also. Why is it necessary to ship tennis balls on ground instead of in the air for cargo?
Tennis balls are filled with air.

At sea level, the atmosphere is pressing on the outside of the ball and against the air inside the ball. These two pressures are equalized and the tennis ball stays ';tennis ball'; sized.

At higher altitude there is less atmospheric pressure pressing on the outside of the ball, but the pressure of the air inside remains the same. Since there is less force on the outside of the ball than on the inside of the ball, the ball will expand presumably to the point of ruining the ball in some way. Perhaps it will stretch out of shape or pop. . .
im not entirely sure but i think it has to do with air pressure, if its shipped by air they would expand, I'm not sure they'd explode though
in air shipping, tennis balls will expand due to pressure change of air flight and would be damaged

Cargo holds where pets go, are pressurized and heated. Some food and water in the cage will be a must (if allowed by the airline), and perhaps covering the cage with a blanket (leaving the door uncovered) might be a good idea, since cats like to hide and feel secure in an unfamiliar environment. How do cats do flying on their own in cargo?
Depending on your cats personality he will probably be angry with you for a couple of days but other then that no lasting effects. I would advise not giving him much food or water for the 12 hours before so he doesn't soil his cage.
Drug it. I'm serious. Take to the vet and they can give it something that will calm them and put them in such a state that they will just sleep most of the way.
As far as i was told you'll need to supply the airline's w/vet papers stating he/she is in good condition and they'll need water %26amp; food inside i thinking hanging on the cage door + it'll be hella cold in the cargo area too...I've had our cat inside the cabin and he was ok w/me but was noisy when he traveled w/my boyfriend...Lots of luck w/your animal

Has subaru ever made an outback with rear cargo seats?

I used to own a mercury sable station wagon that could seat 8 people (three in the front, three in the rear and two in the cargo area). I swear Ive seen a subaru outback with a similar feature before, but Im not sure how to find a used one or whether or not they even exist.

Was this an option at some point on that model?Has subaru ever made an outback with rear cargo seats?
The answer is no, for US model. The 3rd row seats in the outback may be an add-on cushion by the owner.

When I drove my outback (the legacy), I used to put a thin mattress and by the night time, I flip the rear seat all the way down to the flat position. Now I have a bed in the rear seat and I can stare through the dual roofs to see the stars... This is not a feature from the Subaru...but I think that is how they designed the 'option' for the driver to use.

How much can I buy a 1000 foot cargo freighter for?

I want a cargo ship as a home and I want to know how much it is. I will probably not end up buying one but I can always hope in the back of my mind that there is one somewhere.

Who can give me a price? How much can I buy a 1000 foot cargo freighter for?
unless you have endless amounts of cash for the rest of your life go buy a house boat and be happy most freighters are 600 to 800 ft. 1000 ft.ships need assist tugs just to navigate the mississippi river so unless you have deep water and a very large body of water and a licsense ship captain and a ship pilot to put it on location get the house boat an empty ship that size has at the very least 20 to 30 ft.draft to be stable. How much can I buy a 1000 foot cargo freighter for?
Boats or vessel prices are in a state of constant flux. The average vessel sells for about $10 a foot now. 26' vessel, $26,000.

You would be better off and more sea worthy getting 10- 100' barges and using them as they are designed to be used.

Would save a whole bunch of cash and is also less materail watse.

A 1000' vessel on its own would require (x) amount of draft and (y) of beam to be a stable vessel. In this case (x) would be deeper than an aircraft carrier, and (y) would be about as wide.

  • How long would it take for a small cargo plane to fly from Chicago to Nairobi and how often would it refuel?

This is for a book that I'm working on. I need to know where the plane would have to stop to refuel; major airports can be avoided. How long would it take for a small cargo plane to fly from Chicago to Nairobi and how often would it refuel?
    Hi

It might take 4 hours to get there. It all depends,if the plane tanks are fuel they won't to need to refuel,if it does any airport near byHow long would it take for a small cargo plane to fly from Chicago to Nairobi and how often would it refuel?
It certainly wouldn't take 4 hours. Nairobi and Chicago are 8,010 miles apart.

Your flight time will depend on the fuel capacity of the plane and the fuel-mileage.

AS to where you can stop, check the route...

What is the ratio betwen the dead weight of an air craft to passenger plus cargo?

i hope both are not equal -What is the ratio betwen the dead weight of an air craft to passenger plus cargo?
Depends on the range. Short range airplanes have a higher operating empty weight (OEW) to MTOW (max takeoff weight) ratio, because they carry less fuel. The farther the airplane can fly, the more its MTOW is fuel. OEW is usually about half the MTOW or so, with the difference being about half payload and half fuel- ie payload is about 1/4 of MTOW.What is the ratio betwen the dead weight of an air craft to passenger plus cargo?
Each aircraft is different based design, engines, fuel amount, structal design.

I actually figured this out with cargo config aircraft, due that the cabins are removed and there is nothing in them except fire protection.

Using a ratio of MTOW vs Useful Load for a bunch of different aircrafts (dc-9, dc-9-30, b-727-200, da-20, be-99, c-310,grand carvan, cv-5800, and some others) and when averaged out, it comes out to about 3 lbs of a/c to 1lb of a/c load, or in other terms, for every 4 lbs the a/c weights at MTOW, 3 of it is dead weight.

Can I stop the pockets on cargo shorts from curling in the wash?

I love my cargo shorts, but I HATE the way the corners of all of my pockets tend to crease and curl in the wash. I suck at ironing, and fixing one pair of shorts takes 15 minutes, lasting only until I wash them again. :/

Does anyone have a killer secret as to how I can avoid this? Can I stop the pockets on cargo shorts from curling in the wash?
Nope, the only tip is to really pull on them when they come out of the wash. Otherwise, no ';super'; idea comes to mind. Can I stop the pockets on cargo shorts from curling in the wash?
No killer secret here the person above me who suggested you buy cheap clothes is either just lucky or doesn't actually own any cargo pants... just make sure to take them out of the dryer IMMEDIATELY when they are done and fold them perfectly. When I say fold them perfectly I mean...

Step 1. Hold pants in hands like you were wearing them

Step 2. Fold them in half (leg to leg)

Step 3. Pull the crotch out so the fabric is flat

Step 4. Position flaps so they are hanging the right way.

Step 5. Fold once to hang and twice to put it in a drawer

If this doesn't make sense let me know and I'll send pictures
dont know if they will stay but try stuffing the flap inside the pocket before washing...
this doesen't happen 2 me, do you buy the cheap or proper ones?

  • Is the cargo compartment in a passenger jet also pressurized?

I think pressurizing the insides of high-altitude flying jets is costly. So I am wondering if the cargoes are left exposed to high altitude low pressure or not.Is the cargo compartment in a passenger jet also pressurized?
Yes, the cargo compartment is pressurized the same as the passenger cabin. In modern commercial aircraft, the engines provide compressed air that is used to power the air conditioning systems. Some of the air entering the cabin has actually been through part of the engine. The air from this air conditioning system enters the passenger cabin through vents above the seats, and in some cases through vents along the ceiling panels. The air then leaves the passenger cabin through the vents at the bottom of the sidewall panels. That air then flows down between the air craft skin and the sidewall panels of the cargo compartment. Then the air leaves the aircraft through the outflow valve, which can be modulated for controlling the rate of flow of the air. As the valve is moved towards the closed position, the aircraft's internal pressure will rise. As this valve changes its position at various times through the flight, air is always leaving the aircraft, to allow fresher air to enter. If only the passenger cabin were pressurized, the floor would not easily maintain its flat state, as the excessive pressure difference would push the floor down. Ever see a balloon with a flat side? Equal pressure distribution will not allow that.

Interesting thing that passengers never see is what we call the p-dome, or pressure dome. If you were to walk to the back of a Boeing 767, and there were no lavs or galleys there, you would see a giant dome. Imagine the aircraft is one of those long balloons that clowns shape into animals. The end is rounded. This disperses the pressure. Ever look at the bottom of an aerosol paint can? There is a reason it isn't flatIs the cargo compartment in a passenger jet also pressurized?
on pressurized a/c, the cargo compartment must be pressurized. On most passenger airlines you would see DADO panels on the sidewalls near the floor. Its job is to equalize the pressure bwtween the passenger compartment and cargo compartment. It prevents damage to floor structure due to pressure differential(prevents the floor and passenger from falling into cargo compartment). There was an incident long ago involving a DC10 where the cabin floor collapsed and dropped to cargo compartment because of pressure difference between the pax comp and cargo compt.
Yes, the cargo compartment is part of the pressure hull and is pressurized just as the passenger cabin is. There is no additional cost involved in keeping the cargo compartment pressurized; in fact, it makes the design of the pressure hull simpler.

In some aircraft, the cargo hold is also heated, but not always.
    Most of them are.

There are enough passages (lightening holes, pass-throughs for wiring, piping, etc) for the pressure to pass into the cargo compartment.

HOWEVER, not all cargo compartments are heated. (American Airlines was one of the few we built that had heating ducts to heat the cargo compartment.
A ';passenger jet'; means one that is not used only for cargo. So, that covers a lot of different types. In most private jets, the ';external'; baggage compartments are not pressurized. (';External'; means not in the cabin and not accessible from inside the cabin.)
Apparently they are. A baggage handler went to sleep in one loading baggage in NY and wound up in Boston. The news article can be found here:

    http://www.bradenton.com/news/breaking_n…
Usually, but it's not always heated. That's why you have to put live animals only in a certain bin, or they will freeze to death.
Well whole aircraft is pressurized ......
i think so. After all they put animals in cargo sections.
    Yes, they are...

You can check wine and liquor on flights if that's what you're talking about. You just want to pack it well so bottles don't break. Restrictions would come on carrying liquor from one country to another. You'd have to check with Customs for the country you're visiting to see about that.

Check the customs regulations for your country of arrival.
I work for another airline and I should know this but I pretty much never had to answer that question because of regulations. You may have to put the pet in quarantine when you get there. It depends on the country and it's rules.

On that style of scooter, the seat release mechanism is incorporated into the ignition key switch via a cable . . try turning the key all the way to the left while lifting the back of the seat.

The under seat compartment is not large enough for a 3/4 helmet (seat will not close), only a 1/2 helmet which you DO NOT want. It will hold three 2 liter bottles of soda pop, however.Where is the unlock button for the cargo area under a scooters seat?
Do you mean unlock and open the seat? Look around for a key hole and a release lever around the seat (some Jap scooters have a release in the glove box).

Do you mean open the seat and there's a cargo area? That model may not have one.

gold is nice, but i like a white tshirt with something very coulorful on it. I have some and i wear this white tshirt with a pretty colorful design on it, that has a little bit of the same green to macth

I would go with a sequined top. There are several out there that are cute, not too overly dressy. If you go with a plain tank top, you can add some jewelry to dress it up.
white or green i goes a little bit.
    Black tshirt with rinestones.
What your wearing in your pic is good as a top for your cargo pants
    a fitted beige top
nice white top with some cool shoes with a little heel and some nice jewlery

Does the military produce commercial or cargo pilots?

The military DOES NOT produce (?) civilian pilots. They train military pilots to fly military aircraft for military missions.

Once the pilots leave the military, they are free to apply for employment in any field they choose, including flying civilian airplanes, but they will need more training in order to qualify to fly specific civilian airplanes.Does the military produce commercial or cargo pilots?
Yes They have lots of cargo /transport planes and always need pilots to be trained to fly them ..

RAF , NAVY and ARMYDoes the military produce commercial or cargo pilots?
Not directly, however many RAF pilots go on to fly cargo and passenger airliners. My old rugby mate used to fly Hercules in the RAF. After leaving he retrained and flew freight aicraft for a while, then went on to fly passenger aircraft for Freddy Laker. After further spells flying for British Midland and a private individual he ended up flying for Virgin and was, last time I heard, Virgin's senior pilot flying out to the Far East. That was a few years ago, so he may have retired now.
Being that a service person can usually only serve for 22 years, they may only be early 40s when they retire. Commercial flying can still hold a fruitful career for them; so it is very common to see ex-RAF pilots in commercial airliners. They would still need to complete conversion or type training to familiarise themselves with the aircraft (having sucessfully obtained an ATPL in the first place).
They do both, but also depends on what Aircraft type they have been trained on.
Their skills are easily transferable, so indirectly they do.
pilots that leave the forces sometimes find them selves flying is what they love and yes go into the commercial or cargo industry.

What aeroplanes are used to haul cargo these days?

I've just watched 'Flight of the Phoenix' where the protagonist operates a large twin-boom Boxcar. I know that during the war and shortly afterwards the Dakota was 'the' plane, but other than that I don't know anything about planes!

What aircraft are currently used in the same role as these old work-horses- by private enterprises as well as large freight corporations? Thanks. What aeroplanes are used to haul cargo these days?
For small on demand charters, the typical aircrafts are

    Cessna 310's

    Cessna Grand Caravans

    Lear 24/25/35's

    Da-20 (falcon 20)

    Metro-III's

    Emb-110 (and a very few Emb-120)

    Pilatus PC-12

    Dc-9-15/30 series

    B-727-100/200

    B-737

    Dc-8-60/71

If you did not notice, most of these are very old designs, because they can be bought rather cheaply from airlines that want to upgrade to newer aircraft. These are the most commonly used in the Ad-hoc cargo business.

Commerical cargo compaines such as UPS/BAX/FedEx ..etc, use large heavy lift aircraft such as

    Dc-10

    B-767

    B-747

    IL-76

    Antov-124.

This is becasue they are consolidated loads, meaning more than one shipper's goods are being flown. They are renting space on the aircraft, instead of renting the whole aircraft.

Also the majority of small cargo is actually loaded into commerical passenger aircraft, with Northwest, United, Southwest, American Airlines. What aeroplanes are used to haul cargo these days?

The large companies like Fedex and UPS favour large jets like the DC10/MD11 and the Boeing 767. For lower capacities the Boeing 757 is proving popular, particularly in Europe. British Airways sold their entire 757 fleet for conversion to freighters, A few not yet delivered though. There are a quite a lot of Boeing 747 freighters in use, Asian users and still buying them for their long haul and high capacity routes.

In out of the way places such as in South America there are still Dakotas in use. Mostly by smaller companies. The Drug runners love them.

Most commercial aircraft have derivatives used for cargo carrying, in particular the wide bodied ones. Many military aircraft appear to serve a dual function with the exception of smaller, fighter aircraft.

If you own your own business, look into a business leasing program. It is not the same as a consumer lease. In a business lease, you are allowed the entire capital investmetn deduction on the current year's taxes. At the end of the 'lease' program you can buy out the van for $1.

With that said, you should be able to find numerous banks that will finance the loan. Are you buying it under your name or a business name?

    Both.
It's the natural progression for military pilots to move to the private sector, with a considerable salary increase. Except in the US, where new pilots barely earn enough to live on, apparently.
ex military pilots become civilian pilots.

Rationally, the need for security would have already been met by another company. If you do not represent a company, look into working for one if this is your dream to work security on a freighter.

Are pax jets equipped with infra red fire detectors in cabin or cargo area?

Potential fires need to be detected fast on aircraft. Some people find this topic too horrific to consider or discuss but Improvements to safety in a relatively safe industry are desirable. One does not need to look into the history of air travel very far to locate serious and fatal fire events and total hull losses. Are pax jets equipped with infra red fire detectors in cabin or cargo area?
When the fire detection system detects smoke and heat, Halon is released to smother the fire. Airplanes can tolerate this condition for a long time- one of the requirements for overwater flight is having enough Halon bottle capacity to keep a fire smothered for the duration needed to return to land from the maximum overwater distance- 3 or 4 hours. Are pax jets equipped with infra red fire detectors in cabin or cargo area?
Do you have nothing to do besides come up with these absurd bits of rant. Do us all a favor and shut down your computer for a while.
yes they have some kind of sensor in the cargo sections what in short they do is suck the oxygen out the compartment and the pilot looks for an airport can be hours away without any problems just do not have any pets in the cargo pits it happened two years ago LAX to HNL they landed in SFO then continue on same aircraft matches rubbing together is what started it
';Pax jet';? Is that a new kind of jet engine?
Stutt, your concern should be not the results of the fire, but the cause of the fire. If there is a true fire in the cargo hold, the chances are that everyone will be dead before the aircraft can make a safe landing.

The aircraft is going to be at least 15+ minutes away from a suitable airport in an internal flight, taking into account descent time, and in a longer hail flight, very long.

If there was a fire on board, it would have caused far too much damage to the planes control structures, cabin etc within these 15 minutes to really land safely. You have maybe a few minutes at most to land

But anyway, how many major air accidents have there been down to fires in the cabin or cargo area. You seem to have a bit of an obsession with 'pax aircraft fires'. There are far more addressable issues which could easily save more lives.
I retired as a pilot 10 years ago and at that time they did not. There is a smoke detector in the cargo bay but it is not IR. If someone emails you with more current info, I would enjoy hearing about it.

Use a really small regular screwdriver to manuver the latch on the plug, it's kinda tough. If it has the black plastic tab on the top, use your finger and push it down and pull the connector out. It will be tough and you are probably gonna crack a knuckle.

How do I travel by cargo ship without being an employee?

I read that if someone cannot afford airline travel to another country, they could pay to go on a cargoship heading to that country for less or even help unload the cargo at the end of the voyage as payback for being taken on board. How do I travel by cargo ship without being an employee?
That may have been the case at one time, but it appears to be highly unlikely nowadays. Here's a site that provides some good info on the subject. Note what they say about working off your passage:
