Does a scheduled passenger flight ever transport hazardous cargo?

I've seen tons of movies with these plots where a scheduled passenger plane transports some sort of hazardous material, whether it be a poison gas, some biological bacteria virus, etc.

I just want to know if this actually happens in real life and the pilots get a special notice about something in their plane that could be possibly hazardous to the passengers?Does a scheduled passenger flight ever transport hazardous cargo?
Airlines aren't supposed to carry any type of hazardous materials. That's why they ask you when you check in your luggage if you have any hazardous or dangerous items in your bags.

Does it happen? Yes, unfortunately people lie and TSA's detectors don't catch most of the stuff. I don't think it's as bad as Hollywood makes it out to be with Biological weapons, but gasoline, air cansisters, and fireworks are about as dangerous as I see in an average day. Sometimes companies just straight up lie to the airline about what's really in the cargo. This would be the case in the Valujet crash into the Everglades in 1996. The shipping manifest had the canisters listed as being empty, when in fact, they weren't and that is what brought that plane down.

If you need to ship hazardous stuff, use FedEx or UPS. They have special packaging that can safely transport these items.

If a passenger plane's captain receives notice that there is a hazardous substance onboard, then the only notice he'll get is when the ground crew tells him that it's been removed off of the flight.

Dead bodies are not considered a ';hazardous material.'; Some airlines transport human remains, and others just choose not to do it at all because a casket takes up a lot of space in the belly of the aircraft.

I disagree with the answer above about the Coke. Sure it's ';explosive'; in the manner that if you puncture the can while sealed, you'll have a coke explosion. However, there is nothing in a can of coke that can bring an airplane down.

But there have been stuides that show that elements of the aluminum can itself can be toxic once mixed with other substances. However, unless you're using a chemistry set on the airplane, you'll never hear of a plane going down because of an aluminum can.Does a scheduled passenger flight ever transport hazardous cargo?
Yep

Happens every day all day long.

Did you know that a common can of coke is considered to be a hazardous material???

Do you also realize that passengers bring more dangerous goods on board airplanes than what is shipped with cargo..
i know they transfer dead bodies sometimes

is that hazardous?
I could be wrong but, I think all passenger flights are allowed to carry is the luggage of the passengers and mail. If there is any possibility of hazard it would be contained or removed so as not to be a danger to passengers. Such an occurrence would be placed under close scrutiny. Most hazardous materials are transported separately on cargo planes specifically where the pilots and their stewards are kept secluded from the hazardous object or material.
Yes they do, it was on our news about a week ago.
Yes, unfortunately, there are numerous hazardous materials that can be transported on a plane.

Here's a site that list the regulations:
