How do these relatively small pirate vessels sneak up and capture large cargo ships?

Why don't the ship owners hire security forces to deal with such situations?How do these relatively small pirate vessels sneak up and capture large cargo ships?
Small boats/dinghys - hard to see/do not show on radar


No real lookout on the cargo ships.





No security forces because of the cost, insurance pays if hijacked for ransom, some ports will not allow ships in port with weapons/armed personnel on board, etc.How do these relatively small pirate vessels sneak up and capture large cargo ships?
They just bombard a ship with NO fire power with their own fire power until they can basically throw a hook and rope up onto the deck and climb up.





I agree... these sailors need to start taking training courses on how to use weapons.





Also... don't be surprised if companies start to hire security forces to protect their investments. (Can you say... Black Water?)
depends,think its being done at nite.they don't have large crews on theses ships. also, i think they are a tad bit naive. maybe they these thing only happen to the next guy.not me. however,they (the pirates) are traveling in small boats which are hard for radars to pick up. and theses pirates are just that brazen. who would have ever thought that would actually be getting away with this.by the way, did you see the navy get busy today? lets see how many pirates show up tomorrow?
Because they are trained for that only ....... their job is to sneak and attack, not making a warm welcome ....... lol ........ :)





Cargo ships cant b given ammunition, coz if not with the pirates if there is a mutiny btwn the crew itself, they may use these weapons in bad way ....... so there are regulations ........ to control it ....... but still it happens coz .......

Security outfits cost megabucks. The pirates are in a win situation. They don't care. They have plenty of labour available. . They don't have any respect or fear . They get fear when they are shot but when they are there are more out there to take a chance f
Pirates are usually heavily armed, and these cargo ships do not have any weapons, because of costs, and if they did they would have to stop at every port for inspections.
The pirates have weapons, and the crews don`t. A rocket propelled grenade can cause havoc to a ship. Most of the ships won`t arm the crews because they are afraid of mutiny.
