Do they screen or search luggage that is not carried on but stowed in cargo?

I don't know much about this so exuse me.....I know carry on luggage is screened and searched but what about luggage going in the cargo bay? What process do they go through? Are they searched and screened too? I assume they are but no one tells anything about what they go through...anyone know what they do to luggage going in the cargo bay?Do they screen or search luggage that is not carried on but stowed in cargo?
They sure are!

X-rayed by both regular x-rays and special agricultural ones too (that pick out plant matter) so both weapons and illegal goods can be stopped.

Also, customs at the other end do the same thing and as mentioned, it's not uncommon for the odd bag to be opened and hand-searched.Do they screen or search luggage that is not carried on but stowed in cargo?
Yes they do, especially following the bombing of a 747 that then fell on a scottish town
They are Xrayed and screened for explosives. Every now and thn they are hand searched too.
They do search luggage. If they search by hand, they leave a card saying that the luggage was searched. It may also be done by x-ray.
